To keep the Dolphins captive for the night before the massacre, the fishermen usually injure a few of the captive dolphins with a spear thrust or a knife slash - dolphins will not abandon these wounded family members.

Each year, from October to March, more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are killed by fishermen in Japan.

These dolphins are killed to supply the meat trade, to suppress competition, to prevent pressure on the Whaling and Tuna fish industry and to sell dolphins to aquariums and dolpinariums

Many areas have to be tackled in our efforts to end Greyhound racing in Ireland. However none more vital than stopping the annual sports capital grants from the Irish government. These have amounted to 105,000,000 euro since 2001.As we are in a recession now surely Hospitals or the elderly would be more deserving causes.

Contacting and appealing to Bord na gCon to stop the slaughter and suffering of Greyhounds that is inherent in racing is like asking the butcher to become vegan, maybe harder.

As many of you will know, the Irish government is drafting new legislation for the upcoming Irish animal welfare bill and this will be a critical and crucial time for animals in Ireland. We have the opportunity to stop many heartbreaking acts of cruelty to animals, from homeless abandoned and abused dogs and cats seeking shelter on the cold wet streets to animals that are chained and confined in the circus, to greyhounds suffering and dieing in the Irish racing industry, barbaric bloodsports, cruel fur farming, painful and unscientific animal experiments and much more the list is endless and much goes unnoticed, but we must not allow this to happen, we intend to rip the lid off cruelty to animals in Ireland make it widely known that animals are not ours to use or exploit in anyway, shape or form. read full story / add a comment

HUNT BREAKFAST WAS A DOG”S DINNER
Fox hunters get toasted as breakfast seminar loses keynote speaker and gets infiltrated.

A seminar organised by the Hunting Association of Ireland to address the ‘vegan agenda/animal rights threat’ has been described as ‘farcical and ill-informed’ by the Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR), one of the leading animal rights groups in Ireland.

The organiser of the event Mr Gavin Duffy was left with a large dose of egg on his face when Padraig Walsh, President of the IFA, who was billed as a keynote speaker at the event, vehemently distanced himself from the agenda of the Hunting Association of Ireland.

ARAN activists recently staged a protest on the steps of the Australian embassy in Dublin to call for an end to live cruel sheep exports from Australia. Our activists cordoned off the area as a crime scene with barrier tape reading 'crime scene do not enter' whilst the 'sheep' played dead and covered in fake 'blood' layed on the steps, whilst other members held placards calling for an end to the cruel live export of sheep. Press coverage was fantastic helping to direct the public's attention to cruelty to animals - all in all a very positive, upbeat event to draw attention to a very serious issue.
