BREAKING NEWS 8.30pm - 7th September 2008 BATU MEMBERS OCCUPY UNION HEAD QUARTERS At 7pm this evening twenty members of the Building and Allied Trades' Union (BATU) occupied the union's head office at 13 Blessington Street, Dublin 7. The members, bricklayers and carpenters, said they are taking their building back as they have no confidence in the present leadership. Members of TaraWatch and other groups will sell pieces of coal , dressed as 'fat- cats', tomorrow outside the Green party offices on Suffolk Street at noon tomorrow. The coal will signify the Green's preference for creating new taxes, to penalise carbon use, instead of seeking cuts in spending on carbon producing infrastructure like tolled motorways, in the upcoming Budget, like their own policy documents call for. read full story / add a comment

This evenings picket of the Spanish embassy in Dublin 4 had a pretty good turn out considering it was called at less than a days notice. No less than 15 anarchists turned up as well as perhaps a dozen uniformed cops and four secret police.
