The EU 'presidents' and prime ministers keep betraying the 490 million people in the 27 EU countries. To avoid another defeat, the managers of the EU decided not to hold any referenda at all, but the referendum in Ireland could not be avoided. The Irish European Affairs minister Roche however, said the Irish had to vote in another referendum. Until they vote Yes? read full story / add a comment

Now in the aftermath of a No vote the real reasons for the treaty are increasingly being made public despite the difficulty in getting these topics on the agenda even now as the Irish government 'reflects'. The rejection of the treaty has caused a headache for those politicians who favour EU unification, a unified EU military and further free trade liberalization. The French presidency is attempting to push through as much as possible on militarisation without full ratification. Apparently it was true that french white papers on defence were held over until after our referendum. Little good it did them. One of Sarkozy's problems is that military action undertaken by sub-groups of EU states without the need of agreement from all states has been scuppered by the Irish No as 'Structured co-operation' in Article 48 would have allowed for this and an EU military budget but Nice does not. read full story / add a comment

The EU’s plan to keep the illegal Lisbon Treaty ‘legal’ (=’alive’) has so far enjoyed the full support of the Irish Government and recently entered the stage where it turned out that “We didn’t need full vote on Lisbon: FG” (http://www.independent.ie/national-news/we-didnt-need-f....html) This essentially means that the Government is considering the option to finally discard the referendum NO, and to effectively overthrow the Constitution of Ireland by ratifying a new constitution, the Lisbon Treaty, on behalf of the people of Ireland. “The official decision on Lisbon should enter into legal force + comments” (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/88222) 1. People either know who Habermas is, or they don't. He's not the type to get quoted a lot, but if you go to university and study marxism, sociology, philosophy or aesthetic criticism - you will be required to read some Habermas and remember how to quote him. He has written an article explaining why he believes the Irish voted "No!" to Lisbon. read full story / add a comment

So far Ireland has been the only one of the 27 EU-states to demonstrate an independent court decision in favour of democracy and the rule of law [1, 2]. In the new situation brought about by the EU-leaders’ rejection of Ireland’s decision [3, 4, 5], Ireland is again tested as the last fortress of democracy within the EU. This test is on whether the official decision on Lisbon arrived at on June 12, 2008 would enter into force, or the constitutional foundations of Ireland, similarly to the other 26 states, would be bent or circumvented to serve the interests of foreign political forces [2]? The questions and the proposition of this article are meant to provide a starting point for further legal considerations, building on the assumption that an independent court still exists to protect the constitution, the rule of law and democracy in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

How much legitimacy can Mr. Sarkozy assume in a non-existent role called ‘EU President’, under the current conditions, when the Lisbon Treaty meant to create such presidency has already been legally rejected, and the overall implementation process should have been revoked by now [1, 2]? How much legitimacy can be assumed for a politician who openly contradicted the decision of his own electorate [3, 4, 5] in order to seize power over the rest of the half billion who have never been and never will be his electorate [6]? How much credibility can be granted to a ‘president’ who helped organising the scheme [5] to suppress the opinion of the rest of Europe thus prevented the democratic constitutionalisation process in the region he is supposedly the ‘president’ of? read full story / add a comment

The EU commissioned Gallup, a very highly regarded polling organisation to dom a flash survey of the Irish electorate just after the Lisbon Treaty referendum. The results were widely released, but what was kept under wraps until today was a question about party support among voters. Respondents in the telephone survey were asked if they usually supported and/or voted for a particular political party. There was no surprise that Sinn Fein supporters backed the No side overwhelmingly, but senior figures in the Labour Party must be pondering what it means when a majority of their supporters vote against the way the party leadership wants them to. The Labour Party has yet to decide who will run for the EU Parliament elections next year. This poll will certainly make them think twice about who their candidates are. read full story / add a comment

Would Mr. Cowen continue to represent the European Commission and the Council against his own people? Or would he finally start acting according to his constitutional obligation to his country and demand that the EU should unconditionally respect the decision of Ireland and immediately stop the ratification of the rejected treaty? Have the pro-Lisbon leaders considered that living under a dictatorial regime creates such a high uncertainty that first affects the rulers, due to the unpredictability and uncontrollability of the individual ambitions within an uncontrollable regime? Have they considered the possibility that the one-dimensional knowledge of their lawyers launching an operation with tricks and paragraphs against the nations of Europe may have been insufficient to assess the feasibility of the overall plan? Have they considered the very likely option that their Lisbon-scheme would fail when they least expect it? read full story / add a comment

An Israeli Border Policeman on the perimeter of a farewell airport ceremony for French President Nicolas Sarkozy apparently shot himself on Tuesday in a incident that did not endanger the visiting leader, Israel Radio said. The shooting occurred while a military band was playing and went unnoticed by Sarkozy and Israeli leaders at the ceremony. Dark-suited men then quickly ushered Sarkozy and his wife up the stairs of their plane. In a panic, Sarkozy's wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, rushed up the stairs ahead of her husband. read full story / add a comment |
